I am thoroughly impressed and incredibly proud of your achievement with this web site! I know we don’t always see eye to eye, especially over the last several years, but there is no denying that you are an important person to me, and I am truly proud to have shared even a little of this crazy thing called “life” with you. Here’s to better times for us both. You GO, Newyoricangirl, with your bad self! By the way, I’m glad you finally realize that you are “good enough.” You always were.

Just to keep the math clear on the vote for statehood. It was actually a 61.15% vote in favor of statehood of the 53.99% that voted for a change to a non territorial status for Puerto Rico. This is far less than half of the total votes cast on the island. Statehood does not have the clear mandate the US will require to even begin to consider the option of statehood for PR. It is by no means a definitive majority for statehood by any strectch of the imagination. It is a clear signal that the days of colonization by consent are over!

Thank you, Louis, for the exact figures on the referendum vote. I’ve confirmed your accuracy with several sources. I’m not quite sure why the mainstream American media is quoting 65%. I’ll be on Huffington Post Live at 1pm today (11/8/12) to discuss this subject and I hope you’ll join in the conversation! NEWYORICANGIRL

Hello M.s Torres I really did enjoy your book. One of the reason is because I liked how you disguised everyone’s name and gave them all nick names so it would hide their identies. I thought that was very unique and made it more interesting to read, I have never read a memoir in that style. I Also liked how you never gave up on your mother because of all of her mistakes, and the things she had put you through. The love that you had for your mother showed a lot… At the end of the story, I loved how you stood up to your step father, and told him off. Anyway I hope you and your family are doing fine I wish you nothing but the best

    Sincerely Aliecha Solis

Dear Aliecha, thank you so much for reading my book and letting me know that you enjoyed it. Yes, my mother remains a very special person in my life even though she’s in Heaven now. My family and I are doing great and it is kind of you to inquire about us. I wish you a very bright future! Take care. Julia

Thank you Julia for your message. Javier Jorge Reyes was from Guayama. Puerto Rico. He was only 40, Supervisor at Gucci located at The Mall at Millenia. Such a great friend, so energetic, funny, responsible, loyal person. So creative, full of dreams. He loved Ricky Martin, Jlo, Giselle, Olga Tañón, Ednita Nazario, Beyonce and so many more… Such a great loss but we will always remember his as he was and will never even mention he was a victim of this terrible masacre.

I am SO sorry for your loss. As an activist in our Puerto Rican community, I would like to honor Javier on my Facebook page – Newyoricangirl News & Views. If that’s okay with you, please send me a friend request (at Julia Torres Barden) and then send me any information you’d like me to post in his honor. Most importantly, please let me know how we can help Javier’s family and friends (donations, a virtual memorial). Thank you SO much for sending me this message and I’m honored to help share Javier’s story in any way I can. God bless. Julia/NEWYORICANGIRL
